What was meant to be a day of hope turned into a moment of fear.
On June 8, the first day of school, a powerful earthquake of 7.8 magnitude struck parts of Mindanao. Strong and destructive, the earthquake had classrooms shaking, school grounds cracking, and roofs collapsing. Disrupting the education of more than 4 million learners and affecting close to 44 thousand families. Save the Children Philippines responded within 24 hours, providing children and families in the hardest-hit areas with hygiene essentials, household items, and psycho-social support to help them recover and regain a sense of safety and stability.
